LA Rams 2025 Roster Prediction

We’re a couple weeks away from the start of the NFL season and the following few days will be full of roster cuts, waives and releases. The belief around the Rams’ roster is that this may be the deepest roster they have had in a long time so there may be some extremely difficult decisions to be made with players who deserve a roster spot, but there aren’t enough spots available.
I’ll go through my predictions at each position, and also include a short word on those who I predict to miss out on a spot in the final 53.

Quarterbacks: Matthew Stafford, Jimmy Garoppolo, Stetson Bennett (3)
There’s not much to think about when it comes to the QB room, especially after Bennett’s performances in the first two preseason games which showed how much work he has put in to improve his game. It would be too risky for the Rams to waive Bennett and try to get him back on the practice squad as he would be a more than serviceable backup for many teams in the league so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get claimed.

Running backs: Kyren Williams, Blake Corum, Jarquez Hunter, Cody Schrader (4)
The first three running backs are locks to make the roster and will all contribute this season. I have Cody Schrader just making the roster over Ronnie Rivers. There’s a few reasons why I have opted to include Schrader, but more than anything, he offers something a little bit different to the other backs. He is a back who offers pure power and tackle-breaking ability but can also be dangerous in the passing game too – both were on show in preseason. There is a chance that the Rams decide to carry just three RB’s in to the season and rely on elevating a player from the practice squad if they need to, but the fact that Schrader was kept on the roster for the entire season after the Rams signed him last year, leads me to think that they value his position on the roster.

Tight ends: Tyler Higbee, Terrance Ferguson, Colby Parkinson, Davis Allen (4)
Sean McVay has already spoken about the possibility of running a lot more 12 personnel this season after they drafted Ferguson with their first pick of the draft in the second round. This also provides more evidence that the Rams will keep four tight ends and Davis Allen will retain his roster spot after being held out of the majority of the preseason games. Although Mark Redman showed flashes in preseason, he never really offered much threat to Allen’s roster spot.

Wide receivers: Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, Tutu Atwell, Jordan Whittington, Konata Mumpfield, Xavier Smith (6)
Personally, I don’t think there’s much to question here, despite the explosive plays from Brennan Presley throughout preseason. Mumpfield and Smith were the only receivers with any sort of doubt over their position on the roster before preseason started, but they have both proved their worth and potential both in camp and in games. Smith was primarily relied on as a returner in previous years, but he showcased his receiving ability and his capability to be used as a gadget in the Rams’ offense. Mumpfield also showed real promise especially with his route running and willingness to get involved in the blocking game which are two characteristics that the Rams value so highly in their receivers.

Offensive linemen: Alaric Jackson, Steve Avila, Coleman Shelton, Kevin Dotson, Rob Havenstein, DJ Humphries, Beaux Limmer, Justin Dedich, Warren McClendon (9)
This list is assuming that Jackson is able to play and isn’t put on any injury lists – which is looking hopeful after Sean McVay announced he would start practicing on Monday – and if he isn’t able to play, then I predict that David Quessenbury will make the roster to provide experienced tackle depth in his place. However, I currently have Humphries and McClendon offering tackle depth with Limmer and Dedich offering internal O-line help after proving they can be relied on last year when a starter goes down injured. It is possible that the Rams carry an extra lineman as they have learned how valuable a healthy offensive line can be to their success on offense.

Defensive linemen: Kobie Turner, Braden Fiske, Poona Ford, Tyler Davis, Ty Hamilton, Larrell Murchison (6)
The Rams now have one of the fiercest and youngest defensive fronts in the NFL and they only added to that with the additions of Poona Ford in free agency and Ty Hamilton in the draft. Tyler Davis will also look to contribute more this season and has already been mentioned by Sean McVay as a guy who they want to get more involved. Murchison has been a reliable contributor for the Rams in recent years but doesn’t jump out at you on tape like the others so there is some speculation about his place on the roster, especially in competition with former Mr Irrelevant Desjuan Johnson. I believe Murchison offers slightly better run defence and a bit of experience in a youthful defensive line room.

Edge rushers: Jared Verse, Byron Young, Josiah Stewart, Nick Hampton (4)
There are difficult decisions in every single position group on the defence, but the decision between Nick Hampton and Brennan Jackson may be one of the hardest for the Rams to make this week. Both have shown flashes of promise but neither have really taken their opportunity with both hands which I’m sure would’ve disappointed coaches as whoever makes the cut will be relied on to substitute in and keep our front line rushers fresh throughout games and the season as a whole.

Linebackers: Nate Landman, Omar Speights, Chris Paul Jr, Shaun Dolac (4)
Arguably the position that Les Snead and Sean McVay have neglected the most during their tenure, but now they have a number of young talents coming through. They have Landman, Speights and Dolac who are tackling machines and drive downfield with speed, then Chris Paul specialises in coverage and his high footballing IQ. The ever-present Troy Reeder does offer NFL experience but the younger members of the room have been really impressive in preseason so it would be difficult to overlook them and I believe that they have done enough to beat out Reeder. I can’t see the Rams keeping five linebackers especially with the likes of Jaylen McCollough and Quentin Lake who can come down and play in the box.

Cornerbacks: Darious Williams, Akhello Witherspoon, Decobie Durant, Emmanuel Forbes, Josh Wallace (5)
I believe that these five cornerbacks have secured their place on the Rams’ roster but it’s more of a question if they keep five or six CB’s on their roster. Both Derion Kendrick and Charles Woods have tried their best to try and secure their roster spot and I think there is one roster spot between four players in the Rams’ secondary: Derion Kendrick, Charles Woods, Tanner Ingle and Nate Valcarcel. Spoiler alert, but I’ve opted to go for Tanner Ingle out of those four after his very impressive showings in all of the preseason games. This means that I don’t have a spot for Kendrick or Woods but this was the most difficult decision I had to make and I wouldn’t be surprised to see either of them make it.

Safeties: Quentin Lake, Kam Curl, Kamren Kinchens, Jaylen McCollough, Tanner Ingle (5)
Another position group full of young talent but some doubt at the back end of the depth chart. Both Kinchens and McCollough made plenty of plays last season and provided lots of evidence that they possess a lot of potential to become future stars for the Rams’ secondary. Tanner Ingle has been battling against fellow UDFA Nate Valcarcel in camp but Ingle has flashed during preseason games by making huge hits on ball carriers and making nice plays on the ball when he can. With the Rams appreciating versatility, I think they could plan to use Lake and McCollough all over the defensive backfield and that could mean they’d like more depth at deep safety behind Curl and Kinchens, which is exactly what Ingle can provide.

Special Teams: Joshua Karty, Ethan Evans, Alex Ward (3)
Thankfully, nothing to really note on special teams as all three have proved their worth last season and showed their reliability in the preseason too.
Close omissions: Ronnie Rivers, Brennan Presley, Willie Lampkin, Wyatt Bowles, David Quessenbury, Desjuan Johnson, Brennan Jackson, Troy Reeder, Derion Kendrick, Charles Woods, Nate Valcarcel
I have mentioned most of these names throughout the report and I wouldn’t particularly be surprised to see any of these players make the final 53 man roster.
Sean McVay has mentioned that Willie Lampkin could be put on Injured Reserve so that is partly why I have left him out of my prediction and Wyatt Bowles has been one of the best internal lineman in the entire league during preseason so he has definitely helped his case.

Presley was the star of the show in preseason for the Rams, totalling 164 yards and a touchdown from 11 catches (four of which were classed as explosive plays). He has definitely given the Rams coaches something to think about and he may be claimed off waivers if he is released or he may even choose to join a different practice squad if he believes he has a better shot of eventually making a roster elsewhere.
Desjuan Johnson and Brennan Jackson have unfortunately lacked a bit of spark so could become cut casualties despite being recent draft picks, mainly due to the tough competition at their positions.
Troy Reeder has been a constant in the Rams’ linebacker room over the past few years so it will be difficult for the coaches to cut him but they have managed to find talent and potential in the draft and free agency which means that he may be left behind due to his lack of potential and play-making ability.
Finally, the three secondary players – Kendrick, Woods and Valcarcel – all have good cases to make the final roster but as I mentioned at the start of the report, this roster is one of the deepest they have ever had so some uneasy cuts are going to be have to be made. I do hope that most, if not all, of the players I have predicted to just miss out will return on the practice squad and help build a full 69 player squad that the Rams can rely on to make another run at the Super Bowl.
